Chapter One: Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study
Investigative journalism serves as a pillar of accountability and transparency in democratic societies. In Jibia LGA, Katsina State, a region facing socio-economic challenges, investigative reporting has the potential to expose corruption, address injustices, and advocate for systemic changes. Public trust in investigative journalism is vital for its effectiveness, as trust determines the credibility of reports and the willingness of the audience to act on them. However, trust is influenced by factors such as the accuracy of reports, perceived bias, and the journalists' ability to maintain ethical standards (Lawal & Zubairu, 2024).
